SACRED JUSTICE – Exploring Yoga, Awareness and Social Action as a Community

One aspect of our vision statement at Queen Street Yoga is “Growing Community”. By this we mean that we are committed to seeing our practices as a bridge to awareness and action in our local community and our wider world. We also endeavour to support intelligent change-making and social responsiveness, and to co-create inclusive, diverse, and playful spaces.

Part of nurturing this aspect of our vision has been the beginning of Queen Street Conversations, a facilitated space for community members to come together to talk about their responses and feelings about climate change. This summer we are building on that conversation with our upcoming event on July 20 – Sacred Justice: exploring yoga, awareness and social action as a community.

Andi MacDonald is a co-creator of Community Yoga Vancouver, and we have invited her (along with Kandace Dragonfly) to Queen Street Yoga to offer this workshop. Andi and Kandace are touring across Ontario to various yoga studios and working with communities to build awareness and understanding of social justice issues. Andrea is certified in yin and trauma sensitive yoga. Formerly a community organizer against the Enbridge Gateway pipeline, Andrea has been involved with environmental and social justice activism since 2008.

Kandace Dragonfly is a co-creator of Community Yoga Vancouver. Kandace has received training at the Salt Spring Center of Yoga and taken training in Yoga for Street Youth, Mental Health & Addictions, Trauma Sensitive Yoga, and Yin. Kandace is committed to creating and holding space for the peoples, sizes and identities most often ignored in main stream (western) yoga communities. Kandace has been involved in social justice movements since about 2006.

To make this workshop as accessible to as many people as possible, we are offering a sliding scale contribution. Please register online or at the studio.

$15+hst- under-employed rate
$25+hst- fully employed rate
$35+hst- benefactor rate

We are really looking forward to the workshop, and participating in it alongside community members at the studio.
